Your auto loan
Use your current outstanding principal and the required monthly principal-and-interest payment, not the original vehicle purchase price.
What could you add toward principal?
Example amounts are illustrative, not a recommendation. The plan recalculates as you change a number. Extra payments must actually be applied to principal by your lender.
Your projected payoff
Your plan compared with making only the required monthly payment.

What if you paid a little extra?
The $50, $100, and $200 comparisons below use extra monthly payments only, without a one-time payment. Your custom plan includes both extra-payment inputs above.
| Scenario | Time to payoff | Payoff date | Total interest | Interest saved |

Calculations assume the APR and required monthly payment stay the same. Paying more can reduce the balance faster, but lender practices differ.

How this calculator works
Each month the model adds estimated interest to your outstanding loan balance, then subtracts the required payment, an optional monthly extra, and a one-time extra in your selected month. It repeats until the balance reaches $0.
- Monthly interest = beginning principal × APR ÷ 12, rounded to cents.
- Baseline = required monthly payment only.
- Custom plan = required payment + monthly extra + optional lump sum, capped at the balance due.
- Interest saved = baseline estimated interest − custom-plan estimated interest.
- Months saved = baseline number of payments − custom-plan number of payments.
Before you make an extra payment
Ask your lender whether additional funds are credited to principal, whether there is a prepayment penalty, and how they calculate interest. A payment that merely advances your next due date may not work the way you expect.
This model assumes a fixed rate, equal monthly interest periods, and on-time monthly payments. It excludes daily accrual, late fees, added charges, insurance and warranty premiums, lender-specific interest formulas, and any payoff or prepayment fees. It is not a lender payoff quote.
